According to TMZ , on March 13th, Rick Allen was assaulted by a 19-year-old in front of the Four Seasons hotel in Florida. The Def Leppard was smoking a cigarette near the parking garage when the attack occurred.
Police say young Max Hartley ran toward the musician and threw him backward forcefully, causing injuries when he hit his head on the ground.
A woman in the hotel witnessed the scene and tried to help the drummer, but ended up being knocked down by the suspect as well. “While she is on the ground, the defendant continues to beat her, striking her. She tries to escape by running back into the hotel. The defendant then grabs her by the hair and drags her out of the hotel and back onto the sidewalk before fleeing the area,” the report said.
The teenager fled to another hotel, but was captured while vandalizing cars and taken to Broward County Jail. Despite being charged with assault, elder abuse, and criminal damage, Hartley was released on bail the following day.
A reporter from TV 7 News WSVN questioned the assailant after his release about whether he was a Def Leppard fan, but received no answer. Rick Allen has already stated that he intends to sue the man.
The musician was in Florida as part of the joint tour of Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard , which recently passed through Brazil .
