Pete Townshend , guitarist for The Who , gave more details about Zak Starkey 's departure from the band and admitted that the situation "got out of control".

In a new interview with The i Paper Roger Daltrey 's assessment that Starkey made any mistakes during the performance at the Royal Albert Hall, blaming the overall sound of the evening.

"It was a mess. I couldn't see anything wrong. What you see is a band that hasn't played together in a long time. But I think it probably had to do with the sound. I lost my sound engineer because of it."

"I think Roger's lost his way. Roger's having a hard time. I need to be careful what I say about Roger because he gets angry if I say anything about him. He'll fire me right away. But that doesn't mean he fired Zak. It was a decision Roger and I tried to make together, but it kind of got out of control."

Townshend also said how difficult it was to fire Zak: “I didn’t invite him, right? Roger invited him. And at that time, I don’t really know why he chose Zak, but Zak is another Keith Moon. He comes with real, real bonuses and difficulties. I’m going to miss Zak a lot. But what’s the story, I don’t know shit. I really don’t know.”
