Stratovarius is back with a new single and the long-awaited announcement of a new album after seven years since Eternal , released in 2015.
Finnish power metal giants released the single “Survive,” the title track from their sixteenth album, last Friday, the 3rd. The new album promises “an exciting return from one of heavy metal’s most seminal bands” in a “dynamic and dramatic album, fueling a wide range of emotions along the way. But the central message this triumphant effort conveys is one of struggle, challenge, hope, and victory,” according to the press release.
“We spent five or six whole days trying to create the lyrics for this song,” says keyboardist Jens Johansson . “When we finally chose that catchy phrase for the chorus, it was a good song about survival and everything seemed to fit together. It also fits with the band's history, because we managed to survive for so long.”
The band's most recent unreleased song was "Enigma," part of the compilation album Enigma: Intermission 2 , released in September 2018 with three unreleased tracks, rarities, and orchestrated pieces.
The album Survive will be released on September 23rd of this year. Listen to the single and see the album cover below.
