On Saturday, November 7th, Joe Biden won the US presidential election, defeating incumbent President Donald Trump and becoming the 46th person to hold the office. The victory also came for Kamala Harris , the first woman to become Vice President of the United States.
Throughout the election campaign, we saw several artists expressing their opinions for or against the duo, and today, with the results announced, many of them took to social media to comment on the situation. We've compiled some of those statements here; see below.
Amy Lee: “No one can silence the voice of the people. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!”
Scott Ian: "AMERICA, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!"
Sebastian Bach: “Thank you America! You guys are fucking ROCK!!!!”
Ice-T: “Have a good day… Clown”
Brett Gurewitz:
Alex Skolnick:
Jordan Rudess:
Mark Morton : "You can be mad at me, but I'm glad Biden won. And I'm glad the Republicans will be able to stay in the Senate."
Anti-Flag: “We will never have our dignity until all fascists are buried six feet under. THE FIGHT STARTS NOW. Presidents will not save us, the People will.”
Derrick Green:
Brian May: “Congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden and pioneering Kamala Harris!!! It has been difficult for me to remain silent over the last few days, weeks, months, but I felt it would be wrong to interfere, even minimally, in the politics of another country. But there is a part of me that will always be rooted in the USA – I love America and felt deep pain watching its freedom and decency eroded. Now I can finally speak. I feel immense joy – I see this as a victory of the people for the people – and I hope it comes just in time to make it possible to begin healing the terrible damage that has been done to the American nation and its standing in the world recently. I am thrilled for my dear American friends, who have taken this step to reclaim compassion, justice, truth, accountability, and dignity. I am well aware that America is divided over whether Trump, as President, was a champion or an idiot. But what you will discover in the coming weeks is that the rest of the world has NOT been divided. The whole world, like me, is rejoicing with you at this moment – feeling that we are getting our best friend back – our friend America. Yes – I will pray for unity and decent debate, with some great Republicans sharing the workload in the new regime. And – Yes – finally – the United States of America can be World Champions again!!! Bri 💥💥💥💥 hmmm… I just tried to 'pin' a cool comment from a Republican guy and accidentally deleted it. Damn! Sorry – I don't know how to undo that action. I have to thank many of you on this page who supported Trump but gave me a break. My prayers are for unity in the future – and I will do what I can to promote reconciliation and tolerance. It's a New World – let's make it better. Bri”
Mick Jagger: “I’m excited to return to America free of harsh words and insults and to be with people who I know share similarities and harmony. It’s a challenge, but it can be done!”
