Leonard Cohen passed away in 2016, shortly after the release of his last song during his lifetime, "You Want It Darker." Now, three years later, his unreleased songs have been compiled into the posthumous album Thanks for the Dance , released last Friday, the 22nd.

The album features collaborations with Beck , Damien Rice , Leslie Feist , and members of the bands Arcade Fire and Death Cab for Cutie . The songs on the album were recorded during the studio sessions for its predecessor, You Want It Darker (2016), and is therefore considered its continuation.

To celebrate the release, a mini-documentary was released on Cohen's YouTube channel, showcasing footage from the singer's career and final days, as well as telling the story of the album's creation process.

“When my father saw the success of 'You Want It Darker' right before his death, he asked me: 'Complete the mission. Finish the songs we started,'” says the singer's son, Adam . Listen to Thanks for the Dance below and then watch the documentary.
