Chad Smith , drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers surprised 17 people with an AC/DC cover performance Highway to Hell (1979) and "Up to My Neck in You" from Powerage (1978).

The performance on February 8th featured local musicians AC Dan and Josh May .

“Chad Smith is a legend. He got up and played drums at our Cherry Jam open mic night,” said bar manager James Young (via Tenho Mais Discos Que Amigos! ).

Seth O'Donnell , a young drummer from a local band who also played at the Cherry Bar, posted about the moment with his idol on social media: “I can’t describe it in words. I played drums in front of my idol, then he played with my drumsticks (and broke them) and then I left with him. Yes, he checked out my new hard rock band.”

In addition to Chad Smith, artists such as Axl Rose and Arctic Monkeys have also performed at the Australian bar.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on tour promoting the albums Unlimited Love (2022) and Return of the Dream Canteen (2022).
