During LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, a new book about black metal aims to offer a fresh perspective on the musical genre typically associated with violence and aggression.

Titled Black Metal Rainbows, the work is a 400-page anthology of radical, queer, and leftist writings and art, presented in vibrant colors to discuss black metal as an open and inclusive genre.

Through articles, interviews, art, and comics, the book explores the evolution of black metal and celebrates its anti-authoritarian spirit, bringing together the work of approximately 80 artists, writers, activists, and visionaries.

Keith Kahn-Harris , author of the book Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge , wrote about the work: “This is both a book and a manifesto. A grand declaration of war against those who confine black metal to crude invocations of male and heteronormative nativism. Black Metal Rainbows is an indomitable collection of art, memoirs, articles, and interviews that explode black metal into a myriad of kaleidoscopic pieces. It celebrates the truly indomitable, the revolutionary, and the playful, and refuses to take its subversive gaze away from black metal itself. It is a not-so-subtle rebuke to those who condemn the state of consciousness as a pacification of black metal's vitality. Black Metal Rainbows demonstrates an awakening to the true destiny of black metal.”

The book is available for purchase via PM Press.
