Read Vicky's statement.

Chris Cornell's wife, Vicky, shared an open letter she wrote to her husband following the Soundgarden frontman's unexpected death via Billboard.

Read the moving letter in its entirety:

To my dear Christopher,

You were the best father, husband, and son-in-law. Your patience, empathy, and love were always evident.

You always said I saved you, that you wouldn't be alive if it weren't for me. My heart shone when I saw you happy, alive, and motivated. Happy to be alive. Doing everything you could to give back. We had the best moments of the last decade, and I'm so sorry, my love, that I didn't get to see what happened to you that night.

I apologize that you were alone, and I know it wasn't you, my dear Christopher. Your children know this too, so you can rest in peace.

I'm devastated, but I'll stand tall for you and take care of your beautiful babies. I'll think of you every minute of every day and I'll fight for you. You were right when you said we were soulmates. It's been said that paths that have crossed will cross again, and I know you'll come find me, and I'll be waiting.

I love you more than anyone has ever loved anyone in history, and more than anyone ever will.

Yours and forever,
Vicky.
