Post Malone and legendary vocalist Chris Cornell may have much more in common than we imagine. According to Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), they both share a very similar songwriting style.
In an interview with Eddie Trunk on his podcast, Tom explained that Post Malone has a different approach to his songwriting, similar to what Chris did in his songwriting during his time with Soundgarden.
When working with Chris Cornell in Audioslave, Tom Morello recalled how the compositions came to life with his input and how Chris worked miracles in songwriting: “When we wrote songs with Chris, we’d kind of throw music at him, whether it was a simple chord progression, like in 'I Am The Highway,' or a more complicated heavy riff, and he’d immediately come up with a bunch of great melodies.”
Morello also said that Post Malone can do exactly the same thing: take anything, write it down, and turn it into beautiful melodies: “We’d put these together, and then he’d write lyrics for anything. And that’s exactly how Post Malone does it. Excellent melody – hit melody, catchy, beautiful, terrifying, one after another. And that’s one thing they have in common.” (Via Ultimate Guitar)
