Guns N' Roses co-founder and L.A. Guns guitarist Tracii Guns recalled an episode in which he encountered James Hetfield of Metallica drunk in a bar.

Tracii responded to a question about his relationship with the members of Metallica, saying that everyone was present at the launch of LA Guns' debut album except for Jason Newsted . "They're very friendly and down-to-earth. I really like the guys from Metallica," he commented.

The guitarist then recalled when he was promoting Cocked & Loaded (1989) and received an advance copy of the Black Album . He recounts going into a bar and finding James Hetfield there, drunk. The two spoke briefly, and Tracii remembers some disjointed words spoken by Hetfield.

“I said, ‘I got your new album and listened to it many times. I really liked it.’ And he replied, ‘You always pretend you like Metallica. You don’t like Metallica. I don’t know, man, I don’t know if you like them or not. You’re all posh,’” Tracii recounts. “I’ll never forget the ‘posh.’ I posh? ‘You play with guys like Michael Schenker .’ He was very, very drunk.”

According to Tracii Guns, James Hetfield "completely denies the existence of that night" and always claims to remember nothing of what happened.
