In an interview with BBC Radio , Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins revealed that he considers Chris Cornell his "rock god" (via Ultimate Guitar ). Speaking of the late Soundgarden , Hawkins fondly praised his colleague, stating that Cornell was "very powerful and beautiful, both in appearance and in the way he sang."
“His voice was unbelievable, his range was unbelievable, his lyrics were thought-provoking, dark, mysterious,” Hawkins said. “Sometimes I’d send him songs and he’d listen to them and really give me feedback. And I’d think, ‘Well, Chris Cornell doesn’t need to do that, he’s just being kind.’”
Hawkins continued the praise, comparing Cornell to several other rock names. “Cornell could sing as low as Lou Reed or Bowie and then, suddenly, he could soar to the stratosphere like Dio or Axl Rose ,” said the drummer. “He had that range and the band had that range, so Chris Cornell is who I choose as my rock god right now, and I miss him terribly.”
