Last Wednesday, the 10th, Supla surprised the internet by posting a cover of the pop hit "As It Was" by singer Harry Styles .

The rock icon posted images on his Instagram showing him in a studio recording a punk rock version of the song, which originally has an eighties feel and samples "Take On Me" by A-HA.

In the video, it's possible to see Supla having fun recording the pop hit and giving it a more hardcore feel. The singer reportedly told Rolling Stone Brazil that the recording was part of a session with his band, Os Punks de Boutique . On that occasion, he performed 8 different covers of various artists, including one by Nina Simone , but said he doesn't intend to release any of them officially.

“I don’t intend to release it, I recorded it just for fun. They’re beautiful songs, like this one. This Harry Styles song has a beautiful melody and everyone’s listening to it. Last week it was second place globally on the Spotify chart . But it’s a beautiful song, so I thought, ‘why not?’”, commented the musician.

Supla also exclusively shared with Rolling Stone Brazil a snippet of the final studio recording, which can be viewed on the magazine's official Instagram.

A hit among rock fans.

This isn't the first time the hit "As It Was" has found favor in the rock world. Besides Supla, a YouTuber named Anthony Vincent recently modified the song to sound like something created by Bring Me The Horizon . The version in question is full of heavy guitars and guttural screams mixed with melodic vocals.

Although he hasn't yet made his own hardcore version of the pop hit, Harry Styles has also demonstrated his love for heavy metal music. In 2019, a video of the artist singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at a karaoke bar circulated online, showcasing his aptitude for interpreting Nirvana.

Another rock artist who has shown some affection for Styles' work is Jon Bon Jovi , who performed a cover of one of his most popular singles, the summer hit "Watermelon Sugar," during a charity event.
