In May 1984, the band Twisted Sister released what would become one of the greatest albums of their career . The band left its mark on rock history with timeless anthems. Stay Hungry features nine songs and almost 37 minutes of pure glam metal.
Glam metal, also known as hair metal, one of the many subgenres of heavy metal, features elements of hard rock and glam rock, as well as some punk influences. With a unique visual style, Twisted Sister is one of its biggest names. With their extravagant 80s look, they achieved great success with songs like "I Wanna Rock," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and "The Kids Are Back."
Stay Hungry gifted us with two great hits, “I Wanna Rock” and “We're Not Gonna Take It.” Anyone who has watched music videos on MTV will have very clearly etched in their memory the video for “I Wanna Rock,” with the teacher in class asking the young rocker what he wants to do with his life, and receiving the simple answer of “I wanna rock!”, followed by an explosion, with the band emerging with their sound and extravagant hair.
The exegesis of musical exuberance certainly has a place in glam metal, and Twisted Sister appropriated the theme very well. Stay Hungry is lively and impactful, and gives you that urge to be a rockstar to the sound of Dee Snider . The song "Horror-Teria," with its 7:43 minutes of duration, shows how music, by itself, can tell stories, with a good glamorous horror tale.
Twisted Sister is a best-selling franchise.
The album was one of the band's most important, achieving platinum status and selling over 3 million copies by 1995 (via RIAA ). In 2024, with the band's return to the stage, they remained hungry and released Still Hungry . They revisited the classic album and released a record with a reinvigorated vision, showing that the songs are timeless, with their good humor and critique of the education system.
