Kerry King , guitarist for Slayer , said the band retired "too soon." The group said goodbye to the stage in November 2019.
The guitarist made this comment while recording a video message for Machine Head congratulating them on their 30th anniversary.
“So it’s time to congratulate my friends in Machine Head,” he said. “Apparently 30 years is a very big achievement. Not many bands manage that. We did it… and then we retired too early. Fuck us. Fuck me. I hate not playing.”
Slayer last played on November 30, 2019 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Last year, King revealed he had "material for two full albums" for a new project, which also includes drummer Paul Bostaph .
King appeared in the video alongside members of Metallica , System of a Down , and Korn to pay tribute to Robb Flynn . In the video, the guitarist revealed that Machine Head was the only band he handpicked to open for Slayer, and this was all because he was blown away by the group's debut album, Burn My Eyes.
