The band had been offstage since 2019, returning for performances at Riot Fest in Chicago on September 22nd, and at Louder Than Life in Louisville on September 27th.

“Nothing compares to the 90 minutes we spend on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans,” Tom Araya in a press release ( via Blabbermouth ), “and to be honest, we miss that.”

Kerry King added: “Did I miss playing live? Absolutely. Slayer means a lot to our fans; they mean a lot to us. It will be five years since we last saw them.”

Internal problems

At the beginning of February, Kerry King released her first solo single and announced the album From Hell I Rise for May 17th.

The guitarist gave an interview to Rolling Stone , in which he explained that he hadn't spoken to Araya since the band's last show : “Not even a text message. Not even an email. I've talked to everyone in the band by phone, text message or email. If Tom called me, I'd probably answer. It probably depends on what he'd say, but I don't wish for him to die right now.”

He further stated that the two had never been "on the same page."
