Kerry King has never disagreed that Slayer retired too soon. In a recent interview, the guitarist spoke about how he felt about the decision to end the band's activities in 2019.
Asked by Metal Hammer about his feelings during the conversation about Slayer's retirement, the guitarist was direct: “Anger… What else could I feel? It was premature. And the reason I say this is that the heroes of my childhood continue playing and I could too, I still want to play, but this livelihood was taken from me,” he said.
Despite his desire to still play, Kerry King seems to be simply dealing with the fact that Slayer has come to an end. “But anyway, we’re moving on to the next chapter, I believe. We were on top of the world and there’s nothing wrong with leaving the stage at the top, it’s a good way to go. So, congratulations on that! But do I miss playing? Absolutely,” he concluded.
The news of Slayer's farewell tour and retirement shocked metal fans around the world in 2018, when the band released the unexpected statement . Contrary to what many predicted (and hoped for), the band went ahead with the plan and ended activities on November 30th of the following year, with no indication of a reversal of their retirement to date.
Kerry King is preparing solo albums.
In 2022, Kerry King declared that he wasn't going to stay still much longer and that he already had enough songs for more than two albums that would certainly please Slayer fans, since the guitarist was also the band's main songwriter.
Radio host Nikki Blakk , who is also a personal friend of King and hosts the San Francisco-based show The Bone , said last July that she had heard new music from the project and described it as "killer." While specific dates are not yet available, the release of these tracks is projected for 2023.
