Following Slayer on their official social media accounts that the band will reunite for performances at the Riot Fest and Louder Than Fest festivals in the United States in September 2024, it was enough for fans of the Californian heavy metal band to express themselves online, both positively and negatively.
Lisa Holt, wife of guitarist Gary Holt, posted on her Facebook account , explaining that the group "will only be returning for one-off shows and it won't be a new tour." She ends the post with a warning to those complaining, saying: "enjoy the fact that this amazing band is playing some incredible shows this year, whether you go or not, nobody cares."
Social media posts criticize the band for not fulfilling their promise to retire in 2019, with others saying they are doing it for money, comparing them to Kiss and Motley Crue . Other more orthodox fans say that this lineup is not the "real" Slayer, mentioning Jeff Hanneman (guitarist and co-founder of the band who passed away in 2013) and Dave Lombardo, drummer of the original lineup who participated in the band's classic albums in the 1980s.
The last few days have been full of news for Slayer fans. Besides the announcement of the band's return to festivals in September, Kerry King revealed new work, including a single, lineup details, and even some festival dates around the world.
