In a recent interview with Abe Kana 98 Rock radio , Slash said he missed talking to Axl Rose during their feud. In the interview, the guitarist recalled his reunion with the Guns N' Roses . It happened Not In This Lifetime tour after two decades.
Regarding the joy of speaking with Axl again, Slash said in the interview: “Yeah, it was great. I mean, God, it’s a long story. But it was great when Axl and I started talking again, because I missed him. We had developed so much animosity that it got worse and worse over time. So when we finally talked and I started talking about playing, God! It was a huge weight lifted off our shoulders and it was exciting to be together again.”
“There’s this chemistry of playing together that sometimes we forget how intense it is when you’re on stage together or just working together. So, yeah, it’s really cool, and I’m very happy that we were able to overcome all of that.”
The partnership between Axl Rose and Slash
It's nothing new for Slash to praise his partnership with Axl. In a 2021 interview with Revolver , the musician described his working relationship with the vocalist: “I worked with different singers, intermittently, for a while. And then, when I met Axl and we started playing together, he was the only vocalist who brought an emotional content that affected me on an emotional level, on an energy level.”
“The music suddenly reached a whole new level, and I felt it. And that's when I realized where the music and the vocals really meet. Because before that, everyone I worked with was terrible, useless for it, and I would have preferred to play instrumentally. But that's when I really got that moving feeling you get when things connect on a lyrical level, a vocal level, and a musical level.”
The duo were separated for almost 20 years. From 1985 to 2016, when the classic lineup reunited with Slash, Rose, bassist Duff McKagan Richard Fortus , drummer Frank Ferrer, and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese .
