Guitarist says he didn't like the song at the time
In an interview with an American radio station, guitarist Slash revealed that he didn't like the song "Sweet Child O' Mine" at first. When asked if there's any song he hates in his career, Slash said:
“I can’t think of a song I completely hate from either band (Velvet Revolver or Guns N’ Roses). Of course, there are songs I like more than others. But I’ll tell you one thing… I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t like Sweet Child O’ Mine. And that gives you an idea of how much credibility my opinion has. I love the riff, but the song… You know, Guns N’ Roses has always been Hard Rock, with attitude. When we did ballads, they were Blues. But this was an upbeat ballad, which is one of the gayest things you can write. But at the same time, it’s a great song. In the end, of course, it was one of the biggest hits we ever had.”.
Sweet Child O' Mine was the band's most lucrative song, according to the guitarist himself, due to being covered by numerous artists. The hit was released in 1988 on the album "Appetite For Destruction".
