Slash and Scott Weiland

Slash reveals that his experience with Velvet Revolver wasn't good.

The guitarist also spoke about the moment he met Myles Kennedy

Since reuniting with Guns N' Roses , Slash has stayed out of the media spotlight, giving few interviews and revealing almost nothing about his new relationship with Axl Rose and his bandmates.

The near-silence was broken this week when the guitarist spoke to the American magazine Rolling Stone . During the interview, Slash talked about his time with Velvet Revolver , the band he was part of alongside Scott Weiland – whom he spoke about for the first time since the musician's death in December 2015Dave Kushner , Matt Sorum , and Duff McKagan .

When asked about his late bandmate, Slash confessed to not having fond memories of his time with the group: “As crazy as that whole period was, I was still shocked to hear about Scott’s death. But yeah, Velvet Revolver wasn’t fun. I don’t have anything positive to say about that experience, except that we wrote some cool stuff.”

In the same interview, the guitarist recalled when he first Myles Kennedy Led Zeppelin was trying to do something with him. So I thought, 'this guy must be really good.' Then I found out that when I was with Velvet Revolver, Matt Sorum had suggested that we work with him, before Scott got involved. But Myles never showed up. I think he got scared or something and nothing happened.”

He also mentioned that when he first heard Kennedy's voice, he was surprised and invited him to sing "Starlight," from his self-titled album released in 2010. "It's very easy to work with Myles. Creatively, we are very similar."

Velvet Revolver was active between 2002 and 2008, returning for a brief reunion in 2012. Weiland was fired from the band due to his drug problems, just as happened with Stone Temple Pilots .
