Scott Ian , guitarist for Anthrax, was surprised by the announcement of three Slayer in 2024. The band will perform at the Riot Fest , Louder Than Life , and Aftershock in the United States. The news caught Ian by surprise, especially since Anthrax was part of the Californian band's farewell tour for a year and a half.
In an interview with Classic Rock , Ian texted Slayer guitarist and co-founder Kerry King, saying, "Thanks for making me look like a liar," referring to the fact that his band had been part of Slayer's farewell tour. Kerry King replied, "Hahaha. Hey, it's only three shows." To which Scott Ian commented, "Yeah, we'll see."
He further added: “Personally, I felt it was too soon. The world needs Slayer, but I believed their word on this. I truly felt they would be the only band that, when they said they were retiring, it would be over forever.”
The announcement was also surprising because it came very close to the release of Kerry King's solo band . The album, From Hell I Rise Lamb of God and Mastodon as special guests .
Anthrax is currently working on the follow-up to the album For All Kings (2016). The band will play at the Sonic Temple on May 17th, as well as the Louder Than Life and Aftershock in October. In November, Anthrax will be touring with Kreator and Testament in the UK and Europe.
