Now, during an interview with Billboard , Matt Cameron explained that his exit was amicable: "I definitely gave them plenty of notice."
“I chatted a bit with Jeff [ Ament , Pearl Jam bassist] and Stone [ Gossard , Pearl Jam guitarist]… It’s been good. I hope we can get together again sometime for a beer or something,” he concluded.
So, Matt briefly explains the reason for his departure: “I was having some issues with the three-hour shows [with Pearl Jam] and the constant touring and everything else. That’s definitely an art form in itself, being able to do that kind of show… I’m at a point now where I want to do a breathtaking 70-minute set, and that’s what I’m focusing on now.”
He stated: “I’m at a point in my life where I want to redirect my time and energy in a way that’s somewhat based on what I want to pursue as an artist right now. I’m also recording original music that I’ve been writing over the years.”
Pearl Jam has not yet revealed Cameron's replacement.
