Kurt Cobain song is circulating online. The track, "Drowned In The Sun," in the well-known Nirvana , is part of an album by artists from the 27 Club – and it was all created using artificial intelligence to support a mental health awareness campaign in the music industry.
This project is an initiative of the Canadian organization Over The Bridge , which focuses on supporting people in the music industry dealing with mental health issues. Any profits from the tracks will go towards supporting the organization's workshop, support, and awareness programs.
“Musicians and their teams deal with mental health issues on a much larger scale than the general adult population,” the project description states. “And this problem hasn’t just been ignored. It’s been romanticized by ideas like The 27 Club – a group of musicians whose lives were all cut short by the age of 27.”.
To create the album The Lost Tapes , the artificial intelligence program analyzed isolated vocals and choruses, lyrics, rhythms, and melodies of the selected artists. Once the algorithm became familiar with the content, it was able to create original songs based on each musician's style.
The final execution of the tracks was handled by an audio engineer. According to NME , the vocals on "Drowned in the Sun" were recorded by the vocalist of the tribute band Nevermind: The Ultimate Tribute To Nirvana .
In addition to Cobain, the album also features tracks inspired by the styles of Jimi Hendrix , Jim Morrison of The Doors , and Amy Winehouse .
