Guitarist talks about the compositions
Slayer guitarist Kerry King spoke about the songwriting process for the band's new album, expected later this year. The new CD will be their first since the death of guitarist Jeff Hanneman in May 2013.
King said the band has approximately 15 songs, of which 11 have already become demos and 7 already have lyrics written. According to the guitarist, the band aims to "release something that would make Jeff proud" .

King said he doesn't seek to write songs in the style of Jeff Hanneman: “That would be shooting myself in the foot. I can't pretend to be Jeff. We both learned from each other for 30 years of writing together. But to do something to sound like Jeff on purpose, I won't do that. If it ends up sounding like Jeff, good for me.”

Regarding using the material Hanneman left recorded on demos, King said that the band shouldn't use it just because it was composed by the guitarist: "I'll put it on the album if it's great material .
King said the band should begin recording in the studio later this month, and possibly release the album in the middle of the year.
