During an appearance on The Wikimetal Happy Hour , Kat Von D spoke with Nando Machado about her debut album, Love Made Me Do It , and discussed her passion for metal, also explaining why her own album didn't follow the genre.

“I was introduced to the world of music from a very young age,” she says. “My family is very musical, so everyone plays several instruments. I learned to play the piano at the age of five. We received a traditional education, so there was a lot of Beethoven and Mozart , but I think that’s one of the reasons why I’m drawn to metal, because when I hear certain guitar riffs, they use the same scales that I play on the piano.”

“I didn’t know punk rock existed until I was 12 or 13, and after that I moved on to Iron Maiden and discovered bands like Suzi and the Banshees , Depeche Mode , The Cure , and I think that’s where I kind of stay because I love all aspects of that kind of music. I love the analog part with the electronic synthesizers, but I also love the romantic poetry, the lyrics, and the powerful vocals. I think when I decided to make an album, a lot of people thought, ‘She’s going to make a metal album,’ and, well, no… I love metal, but I don’t think my voice has the range to sing Slayer or anything like that,” reflects Kat Von D.

The artist, who is also a renowned tattoo artist, also spoke about the personal idols she has tattooed, such as the members of the band The Mars Volta and Dave Grohl . Check it out:
