Renowned tattoo artist Kat Von D is preparing to launch her music career with her first album, to be released on August 27th. Titled *Love Made Me Do It* , the album is a project the artist has been working on for 10 years and which began as a simple challenge to herself: Kat received a CD from a guy she was dating and decided the best way to reciprocate was by making music herself.
“I don’t think about that guy anymore,” the artist says in an interview with Loudwire . “My husband and I say the songs are about my cat,” she jokes.
Now married to fellow artist Rafael Reyes , Kat Von D wrote her album mostly about past relationships and patterns that made her rethink some things, such as the feeling of powerlessness portrayed in the single "I Am Nothing." Speaking about these experiences, Von D revealed that she went through a three-year period of celibacy to get to know herself better.
“Before Rafael, I was only in dysfunctional relationships,” says the artist, who affirms that love was her “kryptonite.” “I don’t have a type, but I think we can say that my type was guys who had problems with their parents. For some reason, I dated many guys who had abandonment issues, and that was reflected in the way they treated the people they dated.”
“At one point I even spent three years in celibacy where I thought, ‘I’m not going to date, I’m not going to get intimate with anyone. I’m just going to focus on myself because I’m tired of the same story repeating itself so many times.’ These things have to happen,” the artist concludes.
To date, Kat Von D has released four singles: “ Enough ”, “ I Am Nothing ”, “ Exorcism ”, and “Fear You”. Pre-save the album Love Made Me Do It here.
