Iggor Cavalera reveals the drummer who most inspired him at the beginning of his career.

"At a time when all the drummers were just following the guitar and being normal, he was trying different things."

During an interview with Revolver (via Loudwire ), Iggor Cavalera revealed which drummer inspired him the most when he was young.

Max [ Cavalera and I were looking through his collection and we found Black Sabbath in the middle of it all. This was after we were already rock fans – not so much metal, but quite a bit of rock. And then, of course, Black Sabbath became one of those bands that, to this day, is one of my favorites. I still listen to those early albums.”

Then, Iggor revealed: “ Bill Ward was one of those guys who inspired me to start playing drums. The way he always played with the boundaries with different percussions. He was extraordinary, he was unique.”

When asked why Ward was so special to him, Iggor explained that it was his unique way of playing. “At a time when all the drummers were just following the guitar and being normal, he was trying different things, he was out of his depth. And sometimes it seemed like the band was trying to keep up with him and not the other way around.”
