Gary Holt revealed that he agrees with his bandmate Kerry King about Slayer retiring too early. He said that the band was still at its peak, but he believes that the best way to stop is when "we're at the top and not when we're just a shadow of what we were."

Kerry King made this comment while recording a video message for Machine Head congratulating them on their 30th anniversary. “So it’s time to congratulate my friends in Machine Head,” he said. “Apparently 30 years is a very big achievement. Not many bands get that. We did… and then we retired too early. Fuck us. Fuck me. I hate not playing.”

During an interview with Metal Hammer , Holt said he agrees with King's statement. “The band still had many years ahead of them, but I think when it’s time, it’s time. When you decide to give up on something, just give it up. I can’t say we made the wrong decision.”

Slayer last played on November 30, 2019 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
