Eddie Vedder's tribute took place during the Mandela 100 commemoration

Eddie Vedder was one of the many guest musicians at Global Citizen: Mandela 100 , a concert in South Africa celebrating what would have been Nelson Mandela's 100th birthday.

During the set, the Pearl Jam paid tribute to Soundgarden and friend Chris Cornell , as well as playing original songs and covers.

Vedder dedicated the B-side of Pearl Jam's "Long Road" to Mandela and "my brother Chris." The veteran rocker, who was accompanied by the Soweto Gospel Choir , began the performance by saying he would sing "a little prayer for you." The original 1995 song was written in memory of one of Vedder's high school teachers.

Then, Eddie did a cover of John Lennon's "Imagine" and a version of Pearl Jam's "Better Man.".

In the video below, the tribute takes place at 3:56 AM.
