Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Ukrainian citizens have echoed the mantra "we're not gonna take it," or, in a free translation, "we're not going to tolerate this." The phrase refers to Twisted Sister 's 1984 hit, "We're Not Gonna Take It," and Dee Snider recently encouraged the initiative.
The musician demonstrated support for Ukrainians by using the hit song as an anthem of resistance, but his approval does not extend to denialist and anti-mask groups.
On his Twitter , Snider wrote: “I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using 'We're Not Gonna Take It' as a rallying cry. My grandfather was Ukrainian before the country was swallowed up by the Soviet Union after World War II. This cannot happen to these people again!”
A few days later, the musician addressed the issue again, this time repudiating the use of the same song by people who are against wearing masks. “People are asking me why I encouraged the use of 'We're Not Gonna Take It' by the Ukrainian people, but didn't do the same for anti-maskers,” he also tweeted. “Well, one use is for a just battle against oppression; the other is a childish tantrum against an inconvenience.”
