Dee Snider asked Donald Trump to stop using "We're Not Gonna Take It."

Snider recounts how the request went

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider told CNN how he asked Donald Trump to stop using " We're Not Gonna Take It" in the candidate's presidential campaign. Snider and Trump have been friends for a long time.

"Like many people out there, I have close friends with whom I don't discuss three things: sports, religion, and politics. Because we both know that if the discussion happens, the friendship ends. And I have friends who hold political views different from mine.".

When Donald started his campaign, he asked me, he called me. 'Can I use the song?' and he's my friend, I said 'yes, go ahead'. But months went by and I heard his whole list of beliefs that we had never discussed. I finally called him and said, 'Dude, you need to stop using the song. People think I'm endorsing you. And I can't endorse a lot of what you're saying'. And he hasn't used it since. He said, 'Dee, fair enough' (...). I still like him but, man, I didn't know the things he believes in and stands for.”.

Snider also spoke about the use of the song by former Republican candidate Paul Ryan: “The biggest issue with this song is that it’s about people’s right to make their own choices. When Paul Ryan used it years ago, and he’s totally against abortion, I had to confront him: ‘Have you heard the song? You’re singing a song that says ‘you have the right to choose’ and then going against a woman’s right to choose. So I can’t support its use.’”
