Dave Mustaine addressed a sensitive topic in a recent interview: his abilities as the vocalist for Megadeth . The frontman revealed how his experience with the band's current lineup has helped him become a better singer.

Mustaine doesn't hide his satisfaction with the band's current lineup and has previously stated that "the current Megadeth is the best in the last 40 years," with special praise for Brazilian Kiko Loureiro . In a new interview with Consequence , bassist James LoMenzo was lauded for his instrumental and vocal skills. "He floats across the stage like a master of his craft, goes to the microphone and sings as well as I do – or even better. And we've never been a band strong in terms of vocals," said Mustaine.

As part of the justification for Megadeth's vocals being a weakness, Dave Mustaine explained that backing vocals in the band were usually assigned to the member who was doing the least instrumental work at the time, and if they could sing, they would get the job. "And hearing the difference between someone who is actually a singer [in LoMenzo's case], compared to someone like me, is… I don't know, for lack of a better term, a 'vocalist' – that made me a better singer," the frontman explained.

As a result of this experience, Mustaine says he recently received praise for improving his own vocal skills during Megadeth's most recent tour. "And I'd like to think I'm not doing anything different. But the truth is, your vocal cords are a muscle, just like any other, and you need to take care of them," he concluded.

Megadeth is currently touring Europe to promote their album The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!, released in September 2022. The band's schedule continues until October.
