Courtney LaPlante , lead singer of Spiritbox , was mistaken for Poppy , an American singer, at the Grammy Awards last Sunday, February 2nd.

Poppy was present because the track she made in collaboration with Knocked Loose , "Suffocate," had been nominated for the "Best Metal Performance" award.

Spiritbox competed in the same category with the song "Cellar Door," alongside bands such as Judas Priest , Metallica , and the winner, Gojira .

The interviewer introduces LaPlante as Poppy, to which the vocalist replies ironically (via Louder ): “I am Poppy, and I am very happy to be nominated here along with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win.”

The artist goes on to clarify the fact that no woman has ever won the "Best Metal Performance" award in its entire 35-year history.

“I was nominated in 2020, I think,” says LaPlante, still pretending to be Poppy, who was nominated in 2021 for the same award with the song “Bloodmoney.” “I’m so happy to be here again. I would love to take home the Grammy with Knocked Loose and myself because I would be the first woman to win this award.”

LaPlante claims she's never seen how many women have been nominated for the award, but knows it's "time" for a woman to win. "I hope it's me or Spiritbox and Courtney," she concludes, still playing the role of Poppy.
