The musician recounts how well and happy he was at the time

A previously unreleased interview shows Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell talking about depression and his family.

Recorded in 2007, the conversation is part of the podcast Mistress Carrie's Side Piece from Boston's WAAF radio station and shows Cornell revealing that he was in a very good phase of his life.

When asked if the musician was happier than ever, he replied, “I can’t even compare. I’ve been very lucky and had a good life, but also a chaotic one, and I’ve gone through very difficult periods. Some of them were imposed on me, and others were due to losing many people I miss.”

"Now, I didn't even know life could be like this. To be happy with my wife, to have a family that's part of my career where there's no falsehood."

He went on to explain that the change in his lifestyle at that time greatly affected his solo album Carry On . “Composing was a completely different experience from anything I’ve ever had. Instead of going to the studio and sitting in a dark room – like I used to – and composing alone, I was in a room in my house listening to my children playing outside. I never again had that feeling of loneliness that I used to have and that brought me to depression so many times. That’s no longer part of my life and that’s great.”

Chris Cornell was found dead on May 17, 2017, in a hotel room at the age of 52. Check out the full interview here and listen to the excerpt where the vocalist talks about depression below:
