Vicky Cornell , widow of the late Chris Cornell , signed the necessary documents on Monday, the 9th, to initiate a lawsuit against Soundgarden , the band her husband led until his death in 2017.
According to TMZ , the lawsuit alleges that the band infringed on royalty rights: "[the band] shamefully conspired to illegally withhold hundreds of thousands of dollars that undoubtedly belong to Chris's widow and minor children."
The court document explains that the group used and granted access to materials recorded by Cornell before his death. "The authorship of these recordings belonged exclusively to Chris, they contain his vocals, and were a legacy of his estate."
Vicky took to Instagram to comment on the matter and lamented the fact that the situation is "common" among widows of musicians and that she feels "angry, sad and betrayed" by Soundgarden. She also explained that she offered the material to the group "provided it was released in a way that respected the legacy and wishes of her late husband, as well as including his trusted producer," but said the band refused.
