Vicky Cornell commented on the tragic death of the former Soundgarden vocalist.
Vicky Cornell , widow of former Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell , spoke about her husband's tragic death in an interview with ABC's Good Morning America
The musician committed suicide by hanging in May 2017 , after a Soundgarden concert in Detroit, USA. But his family questions the medical definition of "suicide," stating that he had a prescription for a higher-than-recommended dose of Ativan, and that this may have been the reason for his suicidal thoughts.
Vicky believes her husband wasn't depressed or suicidal, and that the effects of Ativan motivated his actions. "I don't think he was capable of making any decisions because he was highly debilitated ," she said during the interview.
“My husband was far from being a drug-addicted rock star ,” she added. “He wasn’t like that. He was the best husband, the best father. I lost my soulmate and the love of my life. He wanted to be there for his family, for his children. He loved life. He didn’t want to leave this world.”
Vicky also spoke about not paying attention to the signs of her husband's depression and mental state. “I know people say I can’t blame myself. And I’m trying ,” she stated. “But I feel guilty. You think addiction is a choice, but it’s not.”
