Vicky Cornell Chris Cornell 's widow , said her husband's death "was not inevitable." She blames his battle with addiction as the cause of the tragedy.
Since 2017, she has become an expert and advocate for the treatment of drug abuse. In a panel at the United Nations, she highlighted the importance of ending misconceptions about the disease.
“I lost my husband, my children lost their wonderful father, and the world lost a bright light. All because of a completely preventable and treatable disease,” she said. “My husband got sober in 2003 and then relapsed. And I want to emphasize that his death was not inevitable.”
She made it clear that addiction is a psychological illness and that most doctors are not used to treating it. "We all trust doctors. But a poorly prescribed medication can lead someone to relapse."
