Toni and Lily Cornell, the daughters of lead singer Chris Cornell, wrote a Facebook post honoring their father the day after American Father's Day, which took place last Sunday. His wife Vicky also left a message.
Check out the text by Toni, who is 12 years old:
"Let me start by saying how much I love you and how much you mean to me. You are my idol, someone I have always admired. You have always been there for me. You encouraged me every day, and you still do.".
Whenever I cry or feel like I can't go on anymore, I hear your voice. 'Don't worry, peanut. Worrying is a waste of time, I'm fine.'.
I always listened to what you said. Probably because everything you said was so intelligent.
Every time you came home after the tour, you spent all your time with us. No matter how tired you were, how many time zones you crossed, you were there for us.
When I was sick, you took care of me. You hugged and kissed me and didn't worry about getting sick yourself. You stayed up all night with me to see if my fever would go down. And if it didn't, you woke up and gave me medicine. I opened my eyes, saw you, and felt better.
I have so many memories with you, but one of my favorites was this year when I was jet-lagged and we watched Purple Rain. We were in a hotel and you came into my room while I was looking for a movie to watch.
'And Purple Rain?' you said. And I always trusted your judgment. I put it on and fell in love immediately. Then it got to your favorite song, 'The Beautiful Ones'.
'This song is so special that it doesn't even belong to a genre. When I was twenty, I saw it in a movie theater and a guy started laughing at this song and scene. It made me really angry,' you said.
I fell in love with the music too, and listened to it repeatedly.
Our special connection has always been through the arts. Poems, books, music, writing. We both have an unconditional love for these things.
Who's going to introduce me to movies like 'Purple Rain' and songs like 'The Beautiful Ones' now?
I hope I discover more, because you trained me so well.
I know you're still here, and when I feel warm in the cold, I know it's you.
YOU ARE THE BEST DAD IN THE WHOLE WORLD. And I know that if this hadn't been an accident, you would still be hugging me and watching 'Purple Rain'.
I love you and miss you, Dad. You deserve your own day to celebrate you, because you are the best father anyone could have. Happy Father's Day!
Lily's text, written when she was 16 years old:
"Pope,
A few summers ago, we were riding our bikes in Central Park, and you told me that there weren't many good people in the world, but that I was one of the few. You always had so much confidence and pride in what I did, and your affection and love inspired me to do my best. Now more than ever, I want to live helping others as you did. I want to continue to make you proud. Toni, C, and I promise to survive, persevere, and thrive as you always did. I am so proud to be your daughter, I love you more than words can say, and I will miss you forever
