Bear McCreary announced on Friday the 23rd his new concept album titled The Singularity , scheduled for release on May 12th.

In addition to the participation of Corey Taylor , Slash and Serj Tankian , the project also features Ben Weinman ( The Dillinger Escape Plan ), Brendon Small ( Dethklok ), Buck Dharma ( Blue Öyster Cult ), Esjay Jones ( We Are PIGS ), Gene Hoglan (Dethklok), Jens Kidman ( Meshuggah ), Kim Thayil ( Soundgarden ), Warren Fitzgerald ( The Vandals ), Scott Ian ( Anthrax ), and many others.

McCreary is best known for his work as a music composer on films and series such as Battlestar Galactica , Outlander , Godzilla: King of the Monsters , The Walking Dead , and his most recent project, the soundtrack for the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Bear McCreary commented on the new project (via Consequence ): “I started writing The Singularity when I was 15. I was already obsessed with fusing my love of hard rock, symphonic film scores, and dramatic storytelling into one project, laying the groundwork for what would become a concept album, a comic book, and a multimedia concert experience. I spent the next three decades trying to perfect it. My first high school demo, a 30-year-old cassette tape recording, even makes a brief appearance on the record, moments before the melody is reinvigorated by a new interpretation from Slash, one of the guitarists who originally inspired it.”

He continued: “I’m honored to have the company of dozens of other favorite artists of mine, each of whom brought their unique personalities to this album. Perhaps the biggest shock of all was when Rufus Wainwright brought his warm and theatrical vocal tone to my symphonic metal anthem 'Type III'. I’m grateful that he took a chance and sang in this genre, which is new to him.”

The project also includes three monologues from a comic book story. The lines are performed by Danai Gurira , Lee Pace , and Ryan Hurst .
