8 national artists recognized internationally

Recently, the world turned its attention back to Brazil when actress Fernanda Torres became the first Brazilian to win a Golden Globe, for her role in Ainda Estou Aqui (2024).

Representing a definitive milestone in our country's history, this makes us question: Why isn't our culture always valued as much as American or European culture?

Brazil is a country rich in culture and diversity, with a great deal of art that sometimes goes unnoticed when compared to that of other places.

With that in mind, I've compiled a list of internationally recognized Brazilian rock and metal artists and bands.

Grave

Commonly remembered as the greatest Brazilian metal band, Sepultura was one of the groups responsible for taking Brazilian metal to the international stage.

In 1994, the band won two VMAs, with the songs "Orgasmatron" and "Territory".

The group also announced their farewell tour and, after the departure of drummer Eloy Casagrande , American Greyson Nekrutman took over on drums .

Angra

Angra a famous band and one of the leading names in Brazilian power metal, is also a pioneer of our music abroad.

In addition to having Kiko Loureiro in its lineup, who would later join Megadeth , the group received recognition in reviews of their first album Angels Cry (1993) from magazines such as Rock Hard and Metal Hammer .

More recently, in 2023, they released Cycles Of Pain , which features a special guest appearance by German vocalist Amanda Sommerville on the track "Tears Of Blood".

Crypta

The newest band on the list, but definitely one with great success, is Crypta . Formed entirely by women, they have already toured internationally and participated in festivals.

In 2024, the band was the opening act for Slaughter To Prevail in Europe, and they participated in a US tour alongside Hatebreed, Carcass, and Harm's Way .

Also during the last year, vocalist and bassist Fernanda Lira was invited to participate in the single “NÓS SOMOS FAMÍLIA” by Suicidal Tendencies .

Nervous

Another band that features only women in its lineup is the powerful Nervosa . In 2024, the band held its first headlining tour in North America .

They also shared the stage with Metallica at the Tons Of Rock festival in Oslo, Norway.

Krisiun

A renowned representative of extreme metal in Brazil, Krisiun is a pillar of the genre in our country. Proof of this lies in their international performances, including at Wacken 2025 , one of the world's leading metal festivals.

Another milestone in their career was opening for Black Sabbath in 2017, which Moyses Kolesne described as "the biggest dream of my life."

Rita Lee

The queen of Brazilian rock not only impacted our culture, but also made history internationally.

Proof of this is the 6 Latin Grammy nominations and the win that the vocalist received.

In 2024, she was also honored at the awards ceremony after her death.

Ego Kills Talent

Finally, Ego Kill Talent is gaining more and more recognition within the scene every day.

They were responsible for Linkin Park 's comeback shows in Brazil , in addition to creating the theme song for the Rainbow Six Siege world championship.
