Last Sunday, February 10th, the 2019 Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles. Many artists performed, and the awards were a surprise to the audience.
Newcomers Greta Van Fleet took home the Grammy for best rock album with From The Fires , beating out Ghost 's Prequelle , Alice in Chains ' Rainier Fog , Fall Out Boy's MANIA , and Weezer 's Pacific Daydream .
High on Fire won Best Metal Performance with “Electric Messiah,” from their self-titled 2018 album. The band competed against Between the Buried and Me with “Condemned to the Gallows,” Deafheaven with “Honeycomb,” Trivium with “Betrayer,” and Underoath with “On My Teeth.”
Legendary musician Chris Cornell received the award for best rock performance with “When Bad Does Good.” Chris Cornell Jr. and Toni Cornell, the late musician's children, accepted the award on their father's behalf. Junior called Cornell “one of the best poets of his generation,” while Toni said that “his music was his peace.”
