ZZ Top decides to “honor Dusty Hill’s last wish” regarding the band’s future.

Before he died, the bassist made a request to Billy Gibbons for the band to continue.

The band ZZ Top has decided to continue performing after the death of bassist Dusty Hill last Wednesday, the 28th, at the age of 72.

SiriusXM host Eddie Trunk Billy Gibbons confirmed the group's continuation as a way of respecting the wishes expressed by the musician while he was still alive, when he stepped away from the tour earlier in the week to treat a hip problem and said that "the show must go on."

“With respect, we will do our best to get through this and honor his wishes,” the guitarist commented in a text message sent to the radio host. “Dusty grabbed my arm emphatically and said, ‘Give the bass to Elwood [Francis] and bring him into the band.’ He was serious, my friend, he really was serious.”

The chosen replacement had already performed with the band during Hill's absence while he recovered from a hip injury and is expected to continue with the group in subsequent shows, scheduled to resume this Friday, the 30th, after the cancellation of a date in honor of the musician's passing.
