Marc Rizzo 's departure from Soulfly continues to generate comments from both sides involved, although the guitarist himself has remained calm and stated that Max Cavalera can " say whatever he wants ".
Since Rizzo's last statement, Max has made no further comments, but his son Zyon used his Instagram profile to defend his father and accuse Marc Rizzo of wanting to "drag the family name through the mud." Regarding the alleged lack of payment, Zyon said that the fault lay with Marc for "not filling out the paperwork" and stated that Soulfly had paid a "large sum of money" in February 2021.
“Okay, this is for everyone who doesn’t understand how the music business works… During the pandemic, independent promoters [mostly musicians] were able to receive grants and things like that from the government. My band’s guitarist [Marc Rizzo] didn’t fill out the paperwork for some reason and now he’s trying to drag my family’s name through the mud and play the victim. A lot of people are believing it. Now that the dust has settled, if anyone has any music, feel free to DM me. The guy got upset because he didn’t fill out the documents and blamed us,” Zyon wrote.
In a subsequent post, he concluded his argument by writing: “We paid him a large sum of money to record another album in February 2021, so how come we didn’t help him during the pandemic?”
Marc Rizzo, for his part, had commented that payments seemed to be a frequent problem in Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy , stating that the band did not grant advances to musicians, which would be standard procedure in the industry. According to Rizzo, he started his solo project to support himself during the hiatuses of both bands, which, according to him, could happen without prior notice and extend for months.
