The Black Label Society frontman gave his opinion on rock's position in music charts and awards
In a new interview with Songfacts, Zakk Wylde , guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and founder of Black Label Society, was asked about the future of rock in the charts and music awards around the world. "Even when Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin dominated the world, pop still dominated music ," he opined.
“I think if you pay attention to the 1974 or 1973 Grammys, when these bands were at their peak, nobody mentioned them. Even though Led Zeppelin was filling stadiums, with audiences even bigger than the Beatles' when they played at Tampa Stadium, they weren't at the Grammys. They probably didn't even get a nomination ,” he continued.
In Wylde's opinion, rock music lives in a world separate from awards shows and charts. "That's what rock and roll has always been and always will be."
Black Label Society 's tenth and most recent studio album , Grimmest Hits , was released on January 19th by Spinefarm Records. The band is currently touring North America to promote the LP, with Corrosion of Conformity joining them on all dates, and Eyehategod and Red Fang on select shows.
