When we think of great songwriters, it's impossible not to mention the legendary Sir Paul McCartney . With songs that unite people all over the world, the artist has forever left his mark on history.

To celebrate the legacy of the Englishman, we at Wikimetal decided to select some of the artist's greatest songs and ask the arduous question: what is Paul McCartney's best song? The moving "Yesterday" took the gold medal with 158 votes, just four votes more than "Hey Jude," and in third place, with 145 votes, was "Let It Be."

"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away " is the opening line of the song that immediately moves anyone. The track, born from a dream of McCartney's, was recorded in 1985 at Abbey Road Studios for the album Help! and, according to Guinness , is the most played song on the radio in history, as well as being one of the most covered songs ever.

The second song, "Hey Jude," immediately makes us sing " Na, na, nanana ," right? The Beatles' great anthem was released in 1968 as the A-side of the single "Hey Jude/Revolution ," and despite its, shall we say, substantial length of over 7 minutes, it was one of the group's biggest hits, and in 2011 it was voted the eighth best song of all time by Rolling Stone .

The bronze medal goes to “Let It Be,” a song of such importance that it became the title of the Beatles' last album and the film, released in 1970. Despite the date, the track was written much earlier, between the recordings of The White Album and Abbey Road . McCartney recounts that the inspiration came, once again, from a dream, this time with his late mother, who advised him something that, for Paul, translated as “Let it be.”
