Rock Day: 21 new bands to celebrate the date

We celebrate World Rock Day with the best new releases in the genre.

Here, we've compiled a list of events happening around the country on Rock Day so you can enjoy the best of the genre. But we understand that sometimes the best way to celebrate music is by discovering new artists and bands.

With that in mind, we've selected some new bands for you to add to your playlist. Here, you'll find music from a wide variety of subgenres and from many different countries!

Between the Buried and Me

Tommy Giles Rogers Jr. (vocals and keyboards), Paul Waggoner (guitar), Dustie Waring (guitar), Dan Briggs (bass and keyboards), and Blake Richardson (drums) form Between the Buried and Me , a progressive metal band formed in 2000 in North Carolina, United States. With nine studio albums, one cover album, and one EP, the group draws influences from diverse sources, ranging from Metallica and Pantera to Pink Floyd and Soundgarden .

Theory of a Deadman

Formed in 2001 in Canada, the band, consisting of Tyler Connolly (vocals and guitar), Dave Brenner (guitar), Dean Back (bass), and Joey Dandeneau (drums), has a long history of success. Sharing the stage with Breaking Benjamin , Shinedown , and Mötley Crüe , their songs have been featured on several WWE albums and in a highlight reel of Miami Heat basketball games.

Priestess

Mikey Heppner (vocals), Dan Watchorn (vocals and guitar), Vince Nudo (drums), and Mike Dyball (bass) formed Priestess in 2003, inspired by the classic rock of Black Sabbath and AC/DC , bands to whom the Canadians have been compared. Today, the group is on hiatus while searching for a new sound for their third studio album. Hello Master (2005) and Prior to the Fire (2009) yielded three singles, and you can listen to the first of them, "Talk to Her," below.

The Answer

Formed in 2000 in Northern Ireland, The Answer may generate a sense of recognition, given that the song "Never Too Late" from their debut album Rise (2006) is part of the soundtrack for the game Guitar Hero World Tour . In addition, two other tracks – "Into the Gutter" and "Piece By Piece" – are also featured in games, Pure and Dirt: Showdown , respectively.

Crobot

The American band Crobot has toured with Sevendust , Volbeat , Clutch , and The Sword , and has shared the stage with major artists at the Rock on the Range festival. Active since 2011, they have released three studio albums – Legend Of The Spaceborne (2012), Something Supernatural (2014), and Welcome To Fat City (2016) – which they consider to fit into a more "dirty and groovy" rock sound, drawing comparisons to bands like Queens Of The Stone Age , Rage Against The Machine , and Soundgarden .

In This Moment

With the incredible vocals of Maria Blink , In This Moment was formed in 2005 in Los Angeles, California, and has since attracted the attention of several names in rock and metal, such as Rob Halford , vocalist of Judas Priest , who even recorded a track with the group, "Black Wedding," and Jacoby Shaddix , of Papa Roach , who invited the vocalist to participate in the song "Gravity" from the album FEAR (2015).

TesseracT

Formed in Milton Keynes, England, TesseracT is one of the pioneering and most popular djent metal groups, a recent movement that developed from progressive metal. The group has four studio albums in its portfolio – One (2011), Altered State (2013), Polaris (2015) and Sonder (2018).

Planet of Zeus

Now we travel to Athens, Greece, to listen to the guys from Planet of Zeus . Their debut album, Eleven the Hard Way (2008), received numerous positive reviews from acclaimed magazines such as Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, and was even praised by Bruce Dickinson on a radio show. Today, they have three studio albums – Macho Libre (2011) and Vigilante (2014) – and are touring the world, playing at major festivals like Graspop in Belgium.

Owl Company

Formed in São Paulo, the band combines influences from 1970s and 1980s rock with raw brutality, standing out on the international scene. Enrico Minelli , Felipe Ruiz , Thiago Biasoli , Fabio Yamamoto and Bruno Solera have formed Owl Company since 2014 and are currently working on a second studio album with producer Matt Wallace ( Faith No More , 3 Doors Down ), scheduled for release later this year.

Red Sun Rising

With two studio albums – Polyester Zeal (2015) and Thread (2018) – and two independently released albums – the self-titled (2010) and Making of Kings (2011) – Mike Protich (vocals and guitar), Ryan Williams (guitar), Dave McGarry (guitar), Ricky Miller (bass) and Pat Gerasia (drums) form Red Sun Rising , a band from Ohio, which already has two singles at the top of Billboard 's Mainstream Rock .

Greta Van Fleet

The most talked-about quartet currently was formed in 2012 in Michigan, USA, by the Kiszka ( Josh , Jake , and Sam ) and Danny Wagner . Their striking similarities to the legendary Led Zeppelinpointed out by vocalist Robert Plant – have sparked discussions about the limits of acceptable sounding like their influences without possessing a distinct sound.
