The inaugural World Metal Congress will take place on March 22nd and 23rd
The first World Metal Congress will take place on March 22nd and 23rd in London. Representatives from all fields will discuss, promote, and celebrate the success and scale of heavy metal. Metal from India to Singapore and South Africa will be showcased through panels, documentaries, and live music. The global impact of one of England's greatest cultural exports.
Metal Hammer editor and Twin V Ltd. founder Alexander Milas , in partnership with Dr. Lina Khatib Chatham House political institute , Dr. Niall Scott of the University of Central Lancashire , and producer Josh Retallick of Old Empire . The aim of ow\m/c is to connect the global metal community.
“This is the first of its kind in the world,” said Milas. “In these turbulent times, the fact that music resonates with people of all colors and cultures is something very special. With ow\m/c we are creating a unique forum to bring this global community together.”.
Tony Iommi , founding guitarist of Black Sabbath, is one of the project's supporters. "I'm very happy to know that the congress will take place in the UK," he said. "The metal community is huge, but it rarely gets the recognition it deserves. My best wishes for the event's success."
Created with the support of the Arts Council of England, the conference will feature many important names, including BBC Radio 1, Wacken Festival, Music For Nations, Vice, and Barney Greenway of Napalm Death .
“Human rights and universal artistic licenses are very interconnected,” said Greenway. “Breaking down old stereotypes, celebrating the creation of free expression without barriers. Confronting and debating ethical decisions remains very necessary.”
The second day will feature documentaries about metal's triumphs over adversity and a show by the Singaporean Wormrot
