From Thrash to Death: Women in Extreme Metal

In the week of International Women's Day, we couldn't miss the opportunity to talk about the women who dedicate themselves to real heavy music. Whether with guttural vocals or playing an instrument, they show that they can not only do everything men do, but they do it with mastery. If you're a fan of Black and Death Metal, or want to learn a little about the style, this post is for you!

Mayara Puertas – Torture Squad.
Mayara began her career in Necromesis, a Death Metal band from Santo André/SP. Since 2014 she has been the frontwoman of Torture Squad. Currently, the band is on an extensive tour of South America, promoting their latest work, Far Beyond To Existence.

Hécate – Miasthenia
Miasthenia is a Pagan Metal band from Brasília, with lyrics in Portuguese, that emerged in the 90s. Hécate is the vocalist and keyboardist.

Yngrid Arkana and Andreia Larakna – Lillith's Lust
Another band from Brasília, this time playing Black Metal and featuring two women in its lineup: Yngrid Arkana plays bass, while Andreia Larakna is the guitarist.

Maysa Rodrigues – Cauterization
Cauterization is a Death Metal band from Presidente Prudente, São Paulo. Maysa Rodrigues is the vocalist and guitarist.

Simone “Som” Pluijmers – Cerebral Bore.
Simone became known for her brutal vocals in Cerebral Bore. Currently, the vocalist is in the band Your Chance To Die, where she shares vocals with Missi.
