Wolfgang Van Halen reveals he used Eddie Van Halen's guitar on songs for his solo album

Eddie Van Halen's son also told a funny story about the day his father decided to take Frankenstrat out of the safe where he kept it

Wolfgang Van Halen is counting down to the release of his debut album, Mammoth WVH . The album arrives on June 11th and is an open door to Wolfgang's musical identity, proving he is his own artist, not remaining in the shadow of his father, the legendary Eddie Van Halen .

Despite pursuing his own path in music, the relationship between father and son is one that Wolfgang remembers fondly, as he makes clear in his song "Distance." In an interview with Total Guitar , however, he revealed that memories of Eddie are not the only thing present in his projects (via Guitar World ).

Wolfgang revealed that he used the legendary guitar created by his father, the Frankenstrat , in two of his songs, which, coincidentally, have already been released: the singles " Feel " and the more recent " Mammoth ". "You feel the history. It's kind of terrifying to hold it because this is probably the most famous guitar in the history of music," said the musician.

He also told a comical story about when Eddie Van Halen decided to take the Frankenstrat out of the safe. “My dad picked it up and kind of played around with it for a moment,” Wolfgang recounts. “He said, ‘Yeah, the feeling is still the same,’ and threw it on the couch. Everyone gasped when he did that. To my dad, it was just a piece of tin he built himself, but to us it’s the most famous object in the world.”
