Wolfgang Van Halen released the song "Distance" on November 16th , a tribute to his late father Eddie Van Halen . The song, which came with a moving video, debuted at number one on the Billboard hard rock chart.

The song garnered 826,000 streams and 13,000 downloads in its release week and, according to Billboard, received 1.6 million radio airplays. The track also reached number nine on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs , topped the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales , and peaked at number two on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart.

“Distance” was released under the name Mammoth WVH , his solo band. According to an interview with Elliot in the Morning , the name is a reference to Van Halen , when the band didn't yet have the legendary surname as its name, but rather, Mammoth .
